The Shop at Old Austerlitz

It has been a while since I've posted, and it has been a very busy summer so far. One of the projects I have been working on is The Shop at Old Austerlitz for the Austerlitz Historical Society . The Society operates a beautiful property in Columbia County, New York and this is the first actual shop they have opened on the property. So I thought I'd give you a tour, and an example of what can be done with very little money, some good volunteers, and a bit of creativity.

The Fantabulous World of Marcel Wanders

Jeffrey Harris Design

If you happen to Google Marcel Wanders, and click on images, you might be surprised by the plethora of photos; let's just say that Mr. Wanders is not camera shy. If, however, you were to Google his actual design work, you will be astounded by the sheer scale of his accomplishments. Marcel Wanders is truly a wonder!
Born in Boxtel, the Netherlands, he now resides and works in Amsterdam. He is a product designer, an interior designer (a lot of hotels and commercial work, but also some private residences), an art director, an architect, and rumor has it, a soon-to-be film producer. His work is seldom subtle, and he definitely takes pleasure in the pure joy of whimsy, much of his work references traditional design seen in a new way. Let's take a look at some of his product design first and then move on to the fabulous over-the-top interiors. Prepare to be amazed!

Another chaise longue, to travel with! Marcel Wanders for Louis Vuitton

Of course, everything designed for Louis Vuitton is made with that exquisite leather. Here is the new LV rocking chair:

Chandelier for Barovier & Toso
The Parent's Collection for Cybex, this collection of children's products is "thoughtfully designed baby furniture that fits seamlessly into the home, without disrupting the parents' lifestyle with the arrival of a newborn." Too funny.

The Jackson Chair for Moooi.

The Charleston Chair also for Moooi  (Marcel is an owner and the director of Moooi).

I could go on and on with his product design; it is estimated that he has designed upwards of 1,900 products. Incidentally, the product that first made his name was this chair which he designed for Droog back in 1995:
