The Shop at Old Austerlitz

It has been a while since I've posted, and it has been a very busy summer so far. One of the projects I have been working on is The Shop at Old Austerlitz for the Austerlitz Historical Society . The Society operates a beautiful property in Columbia County, New York and this is the first actual shop they have opened on the property. So I thought I'd give you a tour, and an example of what can be done with very little money, some good volunteers, and a bit of creativity.

Living with Contemporary Art: Designer Amy Lau

New York based designer, Amy Lau, likes to work with clients who like modern and contemporary art. Of course the trick is not to turn the home into a standard white-box gallery. Amy indicates that her approach to design is as an "esemblier, French for conceiving an interior as a total work of art." In an Amy Lau designed space, the art, whether painting, sculpture, or furniture, always takes center stage.

Perhaps my favorite Amy Lau space is in this Park Avenue triplex owned by Clarrisa and Edgar Bronfman. I do enjoy the grand statement, and the large Roberto Matta painting could not be more grand. The symmetrical placement of the twin Jean-Michel Frank sofas draw you right to the painting.

The curved sofa is a custom Vladimir Kagan.
