The Shop at Old Austerlitz

It has been a while since I've posted, and it has been a very busy summer so far. One of the projects I have been working on is The Shop at Old Austerlitz for the Austerlitz Historical Society . The Society operates a beautiful property in Columbia County, New York and this is the first actual shop they have opened on the property. So I thought I'd give you a tour, and an example of what can be done with very little money, some good volunteers, and a bit of creativity.

Designer Virginia Howard's London Flat

When interior designer Virginia Howard decided to make the leap from the Knightsbridge area of London to Pimlico, there had to be something really special about the place and it turns out the new flat was located on beautiful Eccleston Square and that is exactly what sold her. The flat itself had potential, but had gone through one of those horrible 1960's cheap rehabs. The first thing she did was to restore the ceiling heights which had been lowered to save on heating costs. The next thing was to knock down a few walls of the small flat to increase room size wherever possible.

Eccleston Square, a private park for residents living around the square.

Entry hall

The entry hall was increased in size and a cornice was added.

The dining room had once been an enclosed bedroom.

A balcony off the dining room overlooks the square.

A small office cupboard was added to the dining room.

The bedroom had once been two very tiny bedrooms.

Increasing the entry hall made the kitchen smaller, but it was enough space to meet her needs.
