The Shop at Old Austerlitz

It has been a while since I've posted, and it has been a very busy summer so far. One of the projects I have been working on is The Shop at Old Austerlitz for the Austerlitz Historical Society . The Society operates a beautiful property in Columbia County, New York and this is the first actual shop they have opened on the property. So I thought I'd give you a tour, and an example of what can be done with very little money, some good volunteers, and a bit of creativity.

The Photographer's Eye: MANOLO YLLERA

Spanish photographer Manolo Yllera picked up a camera at the age of twenty-five and tried to imitate some of the more artistic photographs he had seen as a young man (think Henri-Cartier-Bresson and Sebastiao Salgado). By the age of twenty-seven he was already selling his work to a few magazines and could call himself a professional. Although his work now includes portraiture, he found his niche and fame by photographing interiors. His work is frequently featured in Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, and Elle. The photos, often focusing on artistic and quirky spaces, somehow manage to capture the spirit of the owners. Early on, he used his own Madrid home/studio space as a laboratory for design and experimentation. Filled with art and objects, often by artist friends, the space is forever changing. The resulting photographs serve as photographic record of his design sensibility over time.

Here we can see how the sitting area has evolved:

One of the more interesting art pieces, an artist friend created a slash of red paint incorporating the wall, headboard, and adjacent chair.

The bathroom includes a homage to Keith Haring painted by another friend.
