The Shop at Old Austerlitz

It has been a while since I've posted, and it has been a very busy summer so far. One of the projects I have been working on is The Shop at Old Austerlitz for the Austerlitz Historical Society . The Society operates a beautiful property in Columbia County, New York and this is the first actual shop they have opened on the property. So I thought I'd give you a tour, and an example of what can be done with very little money, some good volunteers, and a bit of creativity.

Timorous Beasties!

If you've never heard of Timorous Beasties, you should have. This company, based in Glasgow, was created by Alistair McAuley and Paul Simmons. They met while studying textile design at the Glasgow School of Art back in 1990 and have been amazing the design world ever since. They start with classic patterns and then turn them on their head; damasks explode with color and then begin to drip off wallpaper or fabric, splotches of vibrant color are everywhere. In 2004 they opened a retail shop in Glasgow, followed by a showroom in London three years later. The company produces fabric, wallpaper, rugs, lampshades, pillows and furniture. Their pieces are really works of art.

"Little Blotch" velvet fabric would make amazing drapery!

If you're afraid of too much pop, here is a good example of a little restraint, but still edgy and exciting.

The "Bell Moth" fabric.

And some fabulous pillows.
