The Shop at Old Austerlitz

It has been a while since I've posted, and it has been a very busy summer so far. One of the projects I have been working on is The Shop at Old Austerlitz for the Austerlitz Historical Society . The Society operates a beautiful property in Columbia County, New York and this is the first actual shop they have opened on the property. So I thought I'd give you a tour, and an example of what can be done with very little money, some good volunteers, and a bit of creativity.

Martin Brudnizki Does Annabel's

If you live in London, it has been almost impossible to pick-up a periodical without seeing photographs of the new Annabel's which reopened on March 12th of this year. Annabel's is a member's nightclub opened in 1963 by Mark Birley. For decades the exclusive club, located on Berkeley Square has hosted the social elite--everyone from Princess Diana and Mick Jagger, to the Queen herself (it is thought to be the only nightclub the Queen has ever visited). The new space is two doors down (the original was in a basement). Located in a Georgian townhouse that boasts 26,000 square feet of frolicking space, it has 4 restaurants, 7 bars, private rooms, and a cigar salon.
The massive project was designed by Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki who has designed hotels and restaurants all over the world (He is responsible for the Soho Beach House in Miami and The Beekman in New York). His designs are grand and glamorous while always providing a sense of coziness to large spaces. Annabel's represents Martin at his most whimsical with over-the-top flourishes one would hope for from such a storied London club.

Picasso's "The Girl with a Red Beret and Pompom," now dubbed "Annabel," hangs in the reception area.

The new club is open from 7am until 4am, so you can now enjoy breakfast if you can kill 3 hours between closing and reopening.

The woman's bathroom on the top floor is spectacular too:

In the next post we'll take a look at a more private Martin Brudnizki. In the mean time, here are the new uniforms for Annabel's:
